“Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day [is] the evil thereof.” –Matthew 6:34 (KJV)
Matthew concludes a long chapter on worry by hammering in this last point: leave tomorrow to its own problems; today has enough on its own. Worry kills a Christian like nothing else. It catches faith in a stranglehold and chokes the vigor of the Holy Spirit and the joy of salvation from believers.
Throughout Matthew 6, he is proving a single point: the Lord cares for the sparrows, clothes the lilies, and you think He can’t supply your need? And tomorrow is its own day with sufficient evil. So today, why waste your hours worrying about tomorrow? No amount of worry today will change the outcome of tomorrow for the better. However, it could very well change it for the worse.
So, what is Matthew saying?
He’s saying if you trust the God who watches you is the same God who feeds the sparrows ands clothes the lilies, you should have no reason to worry or fear. Leave tomorrow to it’s own issues why don’t ya? Live today trusting God to provide for your needs. as sufficient as the evil of today is, the Lord is much more sufficient to provide for our needs. And my God WILL supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
As always, thanks for reading.
